Buying a vineyard in Anjou

Located in the heart of the Loire Valley, the Anjou wine region is primarily situated in the Maine-et-Loire department. The region benefits from a temperate climate influenced by the Atlantic, a diverse terroir composed of schist, metamorphic rock, and clay-limestone soils, and is crisscrossed by numerous rivers such as the Aubance, the Layon, and the Loir. With over 20,000 hectares of vineyards and 16 AOCs, Anjou is a highly attractive wine region. The white wines are primarily made from the Chenin grape variety, such as Savennières, while the red wines are made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Anjou’s reputation is built on its sweet wines, notably the Coteaux-du-Layon, which boasts the highest distinction, Grand Cru, for the AOP Quart de Chaume. Anjou’s red wines also stand out for their character and diversity, particularly the Anjou-Villages and Anjou-Villages Brissac appellations.
