Buying a vineyard in Touraine
Straddling the departments of Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Sarthe, and Indre, the city of Tours is the hub of the Touraine vineyards. Located along the Loire River and its tributaries, the region boasts a diverse range of grape varieties, although Sauvignon Blanc dominates white wines and Gamay dominates red wines. The 17 appellations span 16,000 hectares and are found alongside the châteaux of the Loire, the hillsides, and the sandy outskirts. The Vouvray and Cheverny appellations are the stars of the white wines. The same is true for their red counterparts, with big names such as the Chinon AOP and the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil AOP.
